My Scan Tool Evolution: From Dedicated Devices to PC Power
Initially, the convenience of dedicated scan tools was appealing. I even had the opportunity to use a Snap-On Verus for a while. The software was impressive, although the tool itself showed wear and tear with a less-than-responsive touchscreen. This experience led me to explore PC-based options, drawn by the flexibility of choosing my own computer and the potential for more powerful software.
I decided to try the AutoEnginuity PC-based scan tool. The concept was excellent – leverage the power of a laptop for comprehensive diagnostics. Unfortunately, my initial experience was bumpy. Right out of the box, the tool suffered from frequent disconnects from the vehicle’s diagnostic port. Despite contacting AutoEnginuity and receiving software updates and patches, the disconnection issues persisted, along with problems running functional tests and actuators. After extensive troubleshooting and beta testing that I hadn’t signed up for, I had to return the AutoEnginuity tool.
