Bosch MDI 2 Scan Tool: Beware of Counterfeit Devices

GM and Bosch have issued a warning regarding counterfeit Bosch MDI and MDI 2 scan tools sold online. These fake tools often look identical to genuine ones, mimicking cables, cases, logos, and serial numbers. However, they are built with inferior components, used parts, or even MDI 1 internal boards disguised as MDI 2s. This can lead to immediate malfunctions, rapid failure, slow performance, and incompatibility with newer vehicles requiring the MDI 2.

Furthermore, counterfeit MDI 2 scan tools may contain malware that can permanently lock a user’s ID and compromise their PC. If this occurs, contacting your Partner Security Coordinator and local IT support is necessary to create a new ID and potentially reformat your PC. These counterfeit tools are often sold at significantly lower prices than authorized retailers like Bosch Diagnostics, a key indicator of their fraudulent nature.

Investing in a scan tool like the Bosch MDI 2 is crucial for service departments. To guarantee authenticity, warranty coverage, and reliable tech support, purchase only from approved channels such as Bosch Diagnostics. Contact Bosch directly at [email protected] to order a genuine MDI 2 scan tool.

Beginning September 12, 2024, GM will block counterfeit devices from accessing GM service applications. Using a counterfeit tool will prevent your user ID from logging in and may negatively impact warranty claims. If you encounter login issues with Techline Connect, contact TCSC at 800-828-6860 for ID reset assistance.
