Preparing for the Update
Before initiating the update, gather the power adapter and Mini-USB data cable included with your Alldata scan tool.
First-Time Setup: Installing the Device Driver
If this is your first time updating or using the tool on a new Windows computer, you’ll need to install the device driver. Download and run the VCI Device Driver. A brief black box may appear during installation. For assistance with running downloaded files, consult this guide on downloading files.
Downloading and Installing the Alldata Scan Tool Update
The Alldata Scan Tool Update process involves several key steps:
1. Download the VCI Updater
Download the latest VCI Updater application. When prompted, choose “Save As” to save the file to a convenient location, such as your Desktop or Downloads folder.
2. Locate and Extract the Updater
Navigate to the saved VCI Updater file using File Explorer. In Google Chrome, click the download arrow and select “Show in folder.” Right-click the zipped file and select “Extract All…”
3. Enter Password and Run the Updater
Enter the password “alldata” when prompted. Click “OK” and then locate and run the extracted ALLDATAUpdater application.
4. Initiate the Update Process
Click “Start” in the ALLDATAUpdater application and follow the on-screen instructions.
5. Disconnect and Reconnect the VCI
Disconnect the VCI from your computer before proceeding. Then, connect the power supply to the VCI. The Power (Red) and Ready (Blue) lights should illuminate. Connect the VCI to your computer using the USB cable.
Important: Do not disconnect the VCI during the update. The Connected (Orange) light will remain lit for 1-2 minutes.
6. Cycle Power on the VCI
When prompted to cycle the power, unplug the VCI power supply, wait 5 seconds, and plug it back in.
The VCI will reboot. The Power (Red) and Ready (Blue) lights will illuminate once the boot process is complete.
Verifying the Update
After the VCI reboots, verify the Appliance Software version is 22.3.2439.2 and the Diagnostic Firmware version is 49 within the VCI Updater.
Disconnect the VCI USB cable and power supply. Click “OK” to close the VCI Updater. Your Alldata scan tool is now updated.
