This guide outlines how to fully vent the air suspension on an Audi A7 using VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System). This process is often performed in conjunction with installing aftermarket lowering links or adjusting the vehicle’s ride height. It’s crucial to have your air suspension setting on “Auto” before beginning.
Venting the Air Suspension with VCDS
-
Deactivate Level Control: Connect your VCDS to the vehicle’s OBD-II port and access Module 34 – Level Control. Select “Deactivate Level Control,” click “Go,” and wait for the process to complete (indicated by “not running”). This prevents the system from automatically correcting the changes you’re about to make.
-
Vent Front Axle: With Level Control deactivated, select “Vent air shock absorbers for front axle.” The car will begin to lower as air is released. Wait until the status changes to “not running.” You should hear the air escaping from the suspension.
-
Vent Rear Axle: Next, select “Vent air shock absorbers for rear axle” and repeat the process. The rear of the car will now lower. Again, wait for the “not running” status.
At this point, the Audi A7’s air suspension should be fully vented. The vehicle will be significantly lower and likely undrivable in this state.
Refilling the Air Suspension
-
Fill Front Axle: To refill the system, return to Module 34 in VCDS. Select “Fill air shock absorbers for front axle” and wait for completion (“not running”). Observe the front of the car rising.
-
Fill Rear Axle: Repeat the process for the rear axle by selecting “Fill air shock absorbers for rear axle.” The rear of the vehicle should return to its normal height.
-
Reactivate Level Control: Once both axles are filled, select “Activate Level Control” and click “Go.” Wait for the status to change to “not running.”
-
Adjust Suspension Settings: After reactivating Level Control, switch the suspension setting from “Auto” to your preferred driving mode (e.g., Dynamic, Comfort). The car will adjust its ride height based on the chosen mode and any modifications made, such as a lowered suspension using lowering links and VCDS adjustments.
This procedure allows for full control over the air suspension on your Audi A7. Remember to exercise caution and consult a professional if you are unsure about any step. Understanding the use of VCDS and the intricacies of your vehicle’s air suspension system is essential before attempting this procedure.
