Programming VW/Audi Key Fobs with B6 Remote VCDS

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to program new radio-frequency remote controls for various Volkswagen and Audi vehicles using a B6 Remote Vcds. This process focuses solely on matching the remote’s functions, not the immobilizer component. For immobilizer matching, consult your vehicle’s factory repair manual or other resources on the Ross-Tech website.

Matching Key Fobs with VCDS: Method 1

This method utilizes the Adaptation channels within VCDS. Before starting, gather all the remotes you intend to program.

  1. Prepare Your Vehicle: Insert a working key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position without starting the engine.

  2. Access Central Convenience/Locking Module: Connect your B6 remote VCDS and navigate to:

    • [Select]
    • [46 – Cent. Conv.] or [35 – Cent. Locking] (depending on your vehicle)
    • [Adaptation – 10]
  3. Read Stored Remote Count:

    • Enter channel “01” (or “21” on some Audi models).
    • [Read] This displays the number of currently stored remotes.
  4. Input Desired Remote Count:

    • Enter the total number of remotes you want to program (up to 4, including existing ones) in “New Value”.
    • [Test] to verify the correct number is displayed in “Test Value”.
    • [Save]
  5. Program Each Remote: Within 15 seconds, press and hold the UNLOCK button on each remote for at least one second, one at a time. Your vehicle may acknowledge each successful programming with flashing lights or a horn beep.

Matching Key Fobs with VCDS: Method 2

If Method 1 fails (channels 01 and 21 unavailable), try this alternative procedure.

  1. Prepare Your Vehicle: Insert a working key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position without starting the engine.

  2. Access Measuring Blocks:

    • [Select]
    • [46 – Cent. Conv.] or [35 – Cent. Locking] (depending on your vehicle)
    • [Meas. Blocks – 08]
    • Enter group “003” (or “007” in some vehicles).
    • [Go!] Field 2 displays the number of matched remotes and their memory positions (e.g., “0001” indicates one remote in position 1).
  3. Program the New Remote:

    • Lock the car using the new, unprogrammed key in the driver-side door lock. You might need to hold the key in the unlock position during the next step.
    • Within 5 seconds, press the UNLOCK button on the new key enough times to reach the next available memory position (e.g., if Field 2 shows “0001,” press twice for position 2). The vehicle might acknowledge each press.
    • Wait 5 seconds and press the UNLOCK button to unlock the door.
  4. Verify Programming:

    • Turn the ignition OFF and remove the old key.
    • Test the LOCK and UNLOCK functions with the new key.
    • Insert the new key in the ignition, turn it to ON, and repeat steps 2 and 3 to confirm the new key is matched in the correct memory position in Field 2 of group “003.” Ensure you’re programming new keys to free memory positions (indicated by a “0”). Using an occupied position will overwrite the existing remote.

Clearing Existing Remote Matching with VCDS

If necessary, you can clear all matched remotes.

  1. Access Adaptation:

    • [Select]
    • [46 – Cent. Conv.] or [35 – Cent. Locking] (depending on your vehicle)
    • [Adaptation – 10]
  2. Clear Remotes:

    • Enter channel “00”.
    • [Read]
    • [Save] and confirm by clicking [Yes] when prompted. This will erase all programmed remotes, requiring you to reprogram them using one of the methods above.

This guide offers comprehensive instructions for programming VW/Audi key fobs with a B6 remote VCDS. Remember to consult your vehicle’s factory repair manual for specific details and always exercise caution when working with vehicle electronics.
