BlueDriver Scan Tool Manual: Understanding OBDII Live Data

The BlueDriver scan tool provides access to a wealth of OBDII (On-Board Diagnostics II) live data, empowering you to diagnose and understand your vehicle’s performance. This comprehensive Bluedriver Scan Tool Manual outlines the various data points accessible through the BlueDriver, categorized for easy navigation. Note that specific data availability depends on your vehicle’s year, make, and model. Utilize the BlueDriver Compatibility Tool to confirm supported data points for your vehicle.

Vehicle Operation Data

This section of the bluedriver scan tool manual details data points related to the overall operation of your vehicle.

Datapoint Description
Engine RPM Measures engine speed in revolutions per minute.
Vehicle Speed Indicates the current speed of the vehicle.
Engine Coolant Temperature Displays the coolant temperature, typically measured near the cylinder head or before the radiator. Some vehicles may have a second sensor (ECT 2) in a different location. Consult your vehicle’s factory manual for sensor specifics.
Engine Oil Temperature Shows the temperature of the engine oil. Sensor location varies but is often near the oil filter.
Ambient Air Temperature Measures the air temperature surrounding the vehicle, usually a few degrees cooler than the intake air temperature.
Barometric Pressure Displays the local atmospheric pressure as an absolute value. This reading is influenced by altitude and weather conditions.
Accelerator Pedal Position Shows the position of the accelerator pedal. Up to three sensors (D, E, F) may be present.
Relative Accelerator Pedal Position Indicates accelerator pedal position adjusted for the vehicle’s learned behavior over time. 100% may not always indicate a fully depressed pedal.
Commanded Throttle Actuator Displays the throttle position requested by the Engine Control Module (ECM) based on accelerator pedal position.
Relative Throttle Position Shows the throttle position relative to the learned or adapted closed position, compensating for changes due to carbon buildup.
Absolute Throttle Position Indicates how open the throttle is (0% fully closed, 100% fully open). Up to four sensors (TPS A/1, TPS B/2, TPS C/3, TPS D/4) may exist.
Control Module Voltage Displays the input voltage at the ECM. Reflects battery voltage with the engine off and alternator voltage with the engine running.
Hybrid Battery Pack Remaining Life Indicates the remaining charge (State of Charge) in the hybrid battery pack as a percentage.
Hybrid/EV Vehicle System Status Reports the hybrid/EV charging state (Charge Sustaining Mode or Charge Depletion Mode), battery voltage (0-1024V), and battery current (-3300 to 3300 Amps). Negative current indicates charging.
Calculated Engine Load Value Represents the current engine load as a percentage of maximum available torque (100% at Wide Open Throttle, 0% at key on, engine off).
Absolute Load Value A normalized value representing the air mass intake per intake stroke as a percentage. Values can range from 0% to 25,700%.
Driver’s Demand Engine – Percent Torque Shows the percentage of maximum available torque requested by the ECM, based on accelerator pedal position, cruise control, and transmission.
Actual Engine – Percent Torque Displays the current percentage of total available engine torque, including net brake torque and friction torque.
Engine Friction – Percent Torque Represents the percentage of maximum torque required to run the engine at no load, including internal components and accessories.
Engine Reference Torque The factory-set torque rating of the engine, representing 100% for torque-related data points. This value doesn’t change with wear or modifications.
Engine Percent Torque Data Used when conditions cause changes to the reference torque. Up to five different maximum torque ratings can be specified.
Auxiliary Input/Output A composite data point potentially reporting Power Take Off status, transmission status, glow plug lamp status, and recommended gear.
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) May report temperatures from various locations in the exhaust system, such as post-turbo, post-catalytic converter, and post-DPF.
Engine Exhaust Flow Rate Measures exhaust flow rate in kg/hr or lbs/hr upstream of the aftertreatment system.
Exhaust Pressure Displays absolute exhaust pressure. At engine off, it should approximate ambient pressure.
Manifold Surface Temperature Measures the temperature at the outer surface of the exhaust manifold.
Timing Advance for #1 cylinder Indicates the crankshaft angle (in degrees BTDC) at which the spark plug for cylinder #1 fires.
Engine Run Time Reports total engine run time, idle time, and PTO engaged time (if equipped).
Run Time Since Engine Start Shows run time in seconds since the last engine start.
Time Run with MIL On Displays engine run time since the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or check engine light was activated.
Distance Traveled while MIL is Activated Shows the distance driven since the MIL was last activated.
Time since Trouble Codes Cleared Indicates engine run time since trouble codes were last cleared.
Distance Traveled Since Codes Cleared Displays the distance traveled since trouble codes were last cleared.
Warm-ups Since Codes Cleared Counts the number of engine warm-up cycles since codes were last cleared.

Fuel & Air Data

This part of the bluedriver scan tool manual covers data points related to the fuel and air systems.

Datapoint Description
Fuel System Status Indicates whether the fuel system is operating in open or closed loop mode.
Oxygen Sensor Voltage Displays the voltage of the oxygen sensor.
Oxygen Sensor Equivalence Ratio Shows the oxygen sensor equivalence ratio (Lambda).
Oxygen Sensor Current Indicates the current of the oxygen sensor, reflecting the air-fuel ratio.
Short Term Fuel Trim Displays short-term fuel injection adjustments based on oxygen sensor data.
Long Term Fuel Trim Shows long-term fuel injection adjustments reflecting learned behavior.
Commanded Equivalence Ratio Displays the desired fuel-air ratio requested by the ECM as a lambda value.
Mass Air Flow Rate Measures the air flow rate through the intake in g/s or lb/min.
Intake Air Temperature Shows the temperature of the intake air. Turbocharged vehicles may have two sensors.
Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure Displays the absolute pressure inside the intake manifold.
Fuel Pressure (Gauge) Shows the fuel pressure as a gauge value.
Fuel Rail Pressure Displays fuel rail pressure as a gauge value.
Fuel Rail Pressure (Absolute) Shows the absolute pressure in the fuel rail.
Fuel Rail Pressure (relative to manifold vacuum) Displays fuel pressure relative to intake manifold vacuum.
