MK7 VCDS Windows: Auto Up/Down Fix for Light Tank Coding Issue

A recent coding discovery solved a persistent auto up/down window issue on a MK7 vehicle using VCDS. After extensive troubleshooting, including checking measuring values and ruling out mechanical failures like the switch and window regulator, the problem was traced to an unexpected setting: “Light Tank” coding in the driver-side controller. This setting, likely enabled inadvertently during previous coding explorations, was not present in the passenger-side controller. Comparing bit by bit the coding between the two controllers in VCDS revealed this discrepancy.

Unchecking the “Light Tank” option and performing a window adaptation procedure through VCDS immediately resolved the issue. This highlights the importance of thoroughly comparing controller coding between the driver and passenger sides when diagnosing window functionality problems with VCDS. A seemingly unrelated setting can significantly impact the operation of features like auto up/down windows.

This solution underscores the power of collaborative troubleshooting and the value of tools like VCDS in diagnosing complex automotive issues. By leveraging the knowledge and experience shared within the community, even obscure coding conflicts can be identified and rectified, ultimately restoring proper functionality.
