VCDS Code 008002: Re-adapting Adaptive Suspension on Audi Vehicles

Vcds Code 008002 often indicates an issue with the adaptive suspension system on Audi vehicles. This error can stem from various causes, including incorrect coding of the level control module, aftermarket modifications, or system malfunctions. This guide outlines a procedure for re-adapting the adaptive suspension using a VCDS diagnostic tool, potentially resolving the 008002 error. However, proceed with caution as this procedure is not officially endorsed by Ross-Tech and should be performed at your own risk.

Understanding VCDS Code 008002 and Adaptive Suspension

Adaptive suspension systems allow for dynamic adjustments to ride height and damping, enhancing both comfort and handling. When a fault occurs within this system, the level control module (address 34) may log error code 008002. Before attempting any fixes, ensure the coding value 008002 corresponds to the correct value for your vehicle’s VIN. If aftermarket suspension components have been installed, ensure they match the original equipment specifications precisely. Discrepancies in size or design can lead to errors and should be addressed before proceeding.

Prerequisites:

  • Battery Maintainer: Connect a battery maintainer to prevent voltage drops during the procedure.
  • Level Surface: Park the vehicle on a completely level surface.
  • Vehicle Empty: Ensure the vehicle is empty of passengers and cargo.
  • Clear Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstructions beneath the vehicle.
  • Doors Closed: Keep all doors closed throughout the procedure.
  • MMI Settings: Using the MMI (Multi Media Interface), set “Air Spring Wheel Change” to “off” and “Automatic Drive Program” to “auto” or configure Audi Drive Select accordingly within the Car menu.

Steps:

  1. Security Access: Access the level control module (address 34) using VCDS and enter the security access code (typically 20103, but may vary).

  2. Basic Settings:

    • Delete Calibration: Go to [Basic Settings – 04] and select “Delete calibration for level control.” Click [Go!], wait for the process to complete, and then press [Stop].
    • Start Up to Reference Level: In [Basic Settings – 04], select “Start up to reference level.” Press [Go!], wait for approximately 30 seconds, and then press [Stop].
  3. Measure Ride Height: Measure and record the ride height at each wheel, in millimeters, from the center of the wheel hub to the fender edge.

  4. Adaptation:

    • Navigate to [Adaptation – 10].
    • Input the measured ride height values for each wheel in the corresponding fields: “Body height left front wheel house edge,” “Body height right front wheel house edge,” “Body height left rear wheel house edge,” and “Body height right rear wheel house edge.” Press [Do it!] after entering each value.
  5. Calibration and Activation:

    • Calibrate Level Control: In [Basic Settings – 04], select “Calibrate level control” and wait for completion.
    • Activate Level Control: In [Basic Settings – 04], select “Activate level control” and wait for completion.
  6. Verification:

    • Re-measure Ride Height: Measure the ride height again and compare the values to those displayed in the Advanced Measuring Value Blocks within VCDS. The values should be within 3mm of each other.
    • MMI Setting: Confirm that the “Air Spring Wheel Change” setting in the MMI remains “off.”
  7. Fault Code Check: Clear all fault codes using VCDS and then re-check for any remaining codes. Finally, road test the vehicle to ensure proper functionality.

Conclusion

Addressing VCDS code 008002 often involves re-adapting the adaptive suspension system. While the procedure outlined above can be successful, remember that it’s crucial to proceed with caution and at your own risk. This process requires careful attention to detail and adherence to the specified steps. If you’re unsure about any part of this procedure, consult a qualified Audi technician or a Ross-Tech expert for assistance. Always prioritize safety and follow recommended procedures when working with vehicle diagnostics and repairs.
