VCDS Coding NAR to EU: Enabling Advanced Bi-Xenon Features on MK7 GTI/R

This guide outlines the steps to enable and configure advanced bi-xenon headlight features on the MK7 GTI/R platform using VCDS coding, specifically converting from North American Region (NAR) settings to European Union (EU) specifications. This process allows access to features like Light Assist and dynamic headlight patterns not typically available in NAR vehicles. Enabling Light Assist and Removing NAR Restrictions

This coding procedure requires a level surface, VCDS (or similar diagnostic tool like OBDeleven), ignition on, and all non-essential consumers off. It is primarily for vehicles equipped with Driver Assist; however, a Homelink mirror may provide the necessary support in its absence.

For 2016 Models:

1. Activate Light Assist:

   • Module: 09 – Central Electrics
   • Adaptation: Assistance light functions
   • Channel: Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent Werkseinstellung
   • Change: Not present to Present

2. Configure Light Assist in Front Sensors Module:

   • Module: A5 – Front Sensors Driver Assistance
   • Coding: AFS__coding_Light_Assist
   • Change: no_Light_Assist to High_Beam_Assist

3. Enable Light Assist in Car Menu: Navigate to Car > Setup > Lights and enable Light Assist.

For 2016 & 2017 Models:

1. Select Technology Package:

   • Module: 09 – Central Electrics
   • Coding: Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung (Advanced High Beam Control)
   • Change: AFS, FLA, BCM-Fernlicht to AFS, FLA, Fernlicht ueber AFS. (Note: AFS, FLA, Fernlicht (GLW, MDF) is not supported.)

2. Remove NAR Restrictions and Enable EU Features:

   • Module: 55 – Headlight Regulation
   • Coding: market
   • Change: nar to ece

3. Enable City Light, Rain Light, and All-Weather Light:

   • Module: 55 – Headlight Regulation
   • Coding: City light, rain_light, all_weather_light
   • Change: Each from not enabled to enabled.

Basic Headlight Setting Adjustment

After completing the coding changes, perform a basic headlight setting adjustment.

1. Run Basic Headlamp Setting:

   • Module: 55 – Headlight Regulation
   • Basic Settings: Basic headlamp setting
   • Execute: Run and acknowledge the setup.

2. Acknowledge Basic Setting:

   • Module: 55 – Headlight Regulation
   • Basic Settings: Acknowledge basic setting
   • Execute: Confirm the adjustment.
