After performing ABS coding and basic settings on a Passat B6, the parking brake module refused to accept any of the four possible coding options. Attempts to re-code the module using VCDS, following a procedure provided by support, were unsuccessful.
Unsuccessful Coding Attempts with VCDS
The process involved accessing Module 53 – Parking Brake, and performing a “Basic Setting for Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251)” followed by re-coding the Parking Brake Electronics (J540) Control Module with the coding [0000012]. Unfortunately, the basic setting for the G251 only changed from “OFF” to “ON” with one field remaining at 0 and the other three displaying “N/A.” This persisted even after waiting 10 minutes. Live data in ABS module, group 004, field 4, showed a value of 0.00 m/s², whereas the expected value should be between -1.5 and +1.5 m/s² for successful basic settings.
Despite confirming the handbrake was released (verified by checking Measuring Value 012.2), coding the parking brake module remained impossible. Live data confirmed communication between the ABS and parking brake modules. VCDS displayed a Workshop code and Importer code, neither of which were 00000 or 123.
Initial Fault Codes and Parking Brake Function Test
Initially, two fault codes were present:
- 01042 – Control Module; Not Coded
- 01087 – Basic Setting Not Performed
After performing the Parking Brake Function Test, only fault code 01042 – Control Module; Not Coded remained. It appears that the G251 adjustment/basic settings might have already been performed by the ABS control module, rendering further G251 adaptation unnecessary in the absence of related fault codes.
Questions Regarding Parking Brake Module
The following questions remain:
-
Is the installed Parking module part number (3C0 907 801 E HW: 3C0 907 801 E Component and/or Version: EPB VC8HC003 013 0003) correct for this Passat B6? Confirming the correct part number is crucial for ensuring compatibility.
-
Should the Parking brake module be replaced? Given the persistent coding issues and unsuccessful troubleshooting steps, module replacement might be necessary. Further diagnostics are recommended before replacing the module. Checking wiring harnesses and connectors for damage or corrosion is advisable.
This case highlights the complexities of Vcds Passat B6 Abs Coding and the challenges associated with troubleshooting parking brake module issues.
