VCDS Trunk Coding: Enabling Key Fob and Driver Door Trunk Close

Many modern vehicles equipped with power trunks offer the convenience of closing the trunk remotely using the key fob or a button inside the car. However, sometimes these features might not be enabled by default. This guide will walk you through the process of using VCDS (Vag-Com Diagnostic System) to enable trunk closing via the key fob and driver’s door button, specifically focusing on the necessary trunk coding adjustments. This modification typically involves accessing the Trunk Electrics module within VCDS and changing specific adaptation channels.

Understanding Trunk Control Modules and Adaptation Channels

The functionality of your car’s power trunk is controlled by a specific module, often referred to as the Trunk Electrics module. Within this module, various settings are configured through adaptation channels. These channels allow you to customize specific behaviors, such as how the trunk responds to inputs from the key fob, the button on the trunk lid, and the driver’s door. VCDS allows you to access and modify these adaptation channels.

Accessing Module 6D (Trunk Electrics) with VCDS

To begin, connect your VCDS interface to your vehicle’s OBD-II port and launch the VCDS software.

  1. Select “Select Control Module”.
  2. Choose “6D – Trunk Electrics”.
  3. Enter the security access code. (Note: The code provided in the original post, “12345,” might not be correct for all vehicles. Consult your vehicle’s documentation or online resources for the correct security access code for your specific model). If the provided code doesn’t work. Try leaving the security code field blank and clicking “Do it!”
  4. Navigate to “Adaptation.”

Modifying Adaptation Channels for Trunk Closing

Once in the Adaptation section of Module 6D, you’ll need to locate the channels responsible for activating the trunk closing function. These channels usually contain descriptions like “Activation using rear lid opening button in remote key” or “Activation using rear lid remote unlocking switch.”

Look for channels related to “Tap function for closing” for both the remote key and the driver door switch. These are the settings you need to modify.

Typically, four adaptation channels need adjustments:

  • (4)-Activation using rear lid opening button in remote key – Tap function for closing: Change this setting from “not active” to “active.” This enables closing the trunk with a short press of the key fob button.

  • (4)-Activation using rear lid remote unlocking switch – Tap function for closing: Change this setting from “not active” to “active.” This enables closing the trunk with the driver’s door button.

Saving Changes and Verification

After modifying the necessary adaptation channels, be sure to save the changes in VCDS. Then, test the functionality of your key fob and the driver’s door button to confirm that the trunk closes as intended.

Troubleshooting

If the trunk still doesn’t close using the remote or the driver’s door button after performing these coding changes, double-check the following:

  • Security Access Code: Ensure you’ve used the correct security access code for your vehicle.
  • Adaptation Channel Selection: Verify that you’ve modified the correct adaptation channels. Refer to your vehicle’s specific documentation for precise channel identification.
  • Other Settings: In some cases, other settings within Module 6D or other related modules might influence trunk closing behavior.

This modification allows for convenient hands-free trunk closing, enhancing the usability of your vehicle’s features. Remember to consult your vehicle’s documentation or reputable online forums specific to your car model for the most accurate information and guidance. While the VCDS software offers powerful customization options, it’s essential to proceed cautiously and ensure you understand the implications of any changes you make.
