VCDS USB Driver Windows 7 Download and Installation Guide

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to download and install the VCDS USB driver for Windows 7. While VCDS typically installs the drivers automatically, this guide offers a solution if the automatic installation fails.

When to Use this Guide

The VCDS software usually handles driver installation automatically. Consult this guide only if the automatic process is unsuccessful. If you haven’t downloaded VCDS yet, download the latest version from the official Ross-Tech website before proceeding.

Installing the VCDS USB Driver on Windows 7

Step 1: Connect Your Interface

Connect your Ross-Tech USB interface to your computer’s USB port. You don’t need to connect it to a car at this point. A “New Hardware Found” notification should appear in the taskbar.

Step 2: Troubleshooting No Notification

If the notification doesn’t appear, open Device Manager. You can usually find it by right-clicking on “My Computer” and selecting “Manage”. Look for the interface under “Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controllers” or “Other Devices.” If found, right-click it, select “Update Driver,” and skip to Step 4.

Step 3: The New Hardware Wizard

When the New Hardware Wizard appears, select “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” and click “Next.”

Step 4: Driver Location

Select “Search for the best driver in these locations.” Check “Include this location in the search.” Browse to the VCDS installation folder (typically C:Ross-TechVCDS) and click “OK.”

Step 5: Driver Selection

The wizard should locate the driver. Click “Next.”

Step 6: Administrator Rights and Driver Signing

If you encounter a message stating “This hardware will not be installed,” ensure you’re logged in as an administrator. Adjust driver signing settings in Control Panel (System -> Hardware -> Driver Signing) to “Warn” and select “Prompt me each time to choose an action.” Retry the installation from Step 1.

Step 7: Driver Warning

A warning might appear indicating the driver isn’t certified by Microsoft. Click “Continue Anyway.” If your Windows Security Settings policy is undefined, you may need to set it to “warn.”

Step 8: Completing the Installation

Click “Finish” to finalize the driver installation.

Step 9: Verify Installation

Launch VCDS, go to “Options,” and select “USB” in the “Select COM Port” box. Click “Test.” A successful installation should display a result similar to this:

Step 10: Save and Test

Click “OK” and then “Save” in VCDS. Finally, connect your interface to a car and test its functionality.
