After installing a new VCDS system in my 2017 Mk7.5 R Wagon, I encountered an issue with the vehicle display on the infotainment system (Discover Pro). While I successfully corrected the virtual cockpit display using VCDS, the infotainment screen stubbornly shows a 5-door Golf hatchback instead of the correct estate model.
Initially, the virtual cockpit displayed the wrong vehicle, but VCDS coding resolved that issue. I also enabled the “dots” customization. However, achieving the desired combination of estate model, “dots,” and blue ambient lighting proved challenging. The system defaults to a gold color, potentially fixable by enabling ambient color options through VCDS, though guides primarily focus on OBD11.
Following an OBD11 guide by @mr-fix, I attempted to modify the long coding for the vehicle display. The available dropdown menu only offered a Passat estate option. After inadvertently selecting this, the display eventually changed to a 5-door Golf hatchback after approximately 30 minutes. Attempting to manually input the coding “02 73 12” yielded no results.
While this discrepancy isn’t critical, I’d prefer to display the correct vehicle model. Could recent firmware updates or modifications be contributing factors? I recently updated the firmware using the AIO package from mibsolution (recommended by Mr. Fix) and implemented minor changes with Most Incredible Bash, such as enabling simultaneous CarPlay and factory navigation. I also enabled VIM and updated the maps to the latest 2024/2025 versions from the official VW website.
Could these modifications, particularly enabling VIM with VCDS, be interfering with the vehicle display on the Discover Pro system? Any suggestions on how to rectify this issue using VCDS would be greatly appreciated.
