Ross-Tech produces the VCDS software and compatible hardware for VW/Audi vehicles. VCDS is free to download and works on Windows (excluding Windows S mode). The software licenses itself through the connected Ross-Tech OBD-II cable.
Currently, Ross-Tech offers the HEX-V2 and HEX-NET cables. The HEX-V2 is generally recommended. While the HEX-NET offers Wi-Fi, it’s limited to VCDS Mobile’s web browser interface. For full VCDS functionality, the HEX-NET requires a USB connection, just like the HEX-V2. Considering the price difference, a HEX-V2 for the garage and a basic OBDeleven for quick checks on the go is a practical combination.
When choosing between the 3-VIN and 10-VIN license, consider how many VW/Audi vehicles you’ll use it with. Basic functions like autoscans and clearing codes don’t require VIN registration, allowing you to scan potential used cars without using a VIN slot. However, advanced functions within specific control modules generally require VIN registration.
