The Daytona Twin Scan II ABS tool emerges as an indispensable asset for servicing 2001-2014 Harley-Davidson® motorcycles utilizing the SAE J1850 data bus. This diagnostic tool is expertly engineered for compatibility with a wide array of Harley-Davidson® models, specifically those equipped with Delphi® fuel injection systems—including V-Rod®—that operate on the J1850 data bus. Furthermore, it extends support to 2003-2006 carbureted models featuring a single 12 pin ignition module. It’s important to note that certain models like 2011 and later Softail®, 2012 and later Dyna®, and 2014+ touring models, alongside earlier carbureted Twin Cam 88® and Marelli® fuel injection systems, which lack the J1850 bus, are not compatible with the Twin Scan II.
Connecting seamlessly via the OE H-D® wiring harness’s four-terminal Deutsch style data link connector, the Twin Scan II ABS necessitates a laptop PC for its user interface and data presentation. This robust tool empowers users to effortlessly read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from crucial modules including the ECM, TSM/TSSM, speedometer, tachometer (on models with IM data bus), and ABS. Beyond basic DTC management, it provides a real-time engine data display through an intuitive instrument panel interface.
A standout feature of the Daytona Twin Scan II ABS tool is its standalone data logging capability, operating independently of a laptop PC. This advanced functionality sets it apart from other diagnostic tools, proving invaluable for pinpointing elusive intermittent trouble codes. Mechanics can operate the motorcycle with the tool installed, and under normal circumstances, it can log up to one hour of operational data. In the event of a trouble code, the logging intelligently halts 30 minutes post-code detection. This logged data can be retrieved even days or weeks later, offering a detailed retrospective of events preceding and following the fault. The tool provides extensive analytical features and chart recorder format printouts for in-depth data examination.

Twin Scan II Software Suite: Four Cornerstones of Diagnostic Excellence
The Twin Scan software is structured around four primary functions, each designed to enhance diagnostic precision and efficiency:
- Diagnostic Trouble Code Management: Read and clear DTCs across all supported modules.
- Real-Time Engine Data Display: Monitor live engine parameters for immediate insights.
- Logged Data Review: Analyze historical data to diagnose intermittent issues and performance trends.
- AFR Data Analysis (with WEGO IIID): Evaluate Air Fuel Ratio data for optimal tuning when paired with the optional WEGO IIID system.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes: Precision in Fault Detection
The Daytona Twin Scan Abs Tool provides comprehensive diagnostic trouble code information across all accessible modules, including speedometer and tachometer data on models equipped with an instrument module on the data bus, and ABS diagnostics. The software interface is divided to clearly present system identification and calibration details at the top, while the lower section displays diagnostic trouble codes. Both current and historic codes are listed with concise descriptions, drawing from a comprehensive Harley-Davidson® diagnostic trouble code database. For detailed troubleshooting guidance, users can reference the H-D® Electrical Diagnostic Manual specific to their motorcycle model.
Functionality extends to printing diagnostic information via any Windows-compatible printer using the “Print Codes” button, and clearing codes is equally straightforward with the “Clear Codes” button.
ABS Brake Bleeding: Advanced Servicing Functionality
Since 2014, all Daytona Twin Scan II ABS units with firmware version 3.0 or higher have incorporated ABS brake bleeding functions. Attempting to use this feature on older units will prompt an error message, though upgrades are available. It’s crucial to emphasize that ABS brake bleeding should only be performed by trained professionals. The tool offers independent bleeding functions for front and rear ABS sections, allowing for focused servicing without needing to bleed the entire system when only one section is addressed.
Real-Time Engine Data: Live Performance Monitoring
The real-time engine data display is presented through a user-friendly instrument panel layout, featuring circular gauges for tachometer and speedometer, and bar graphs for other engine parameters. Key data such as barometric pressure, idle RPM, and system status are presented in dedicated boxes for quick reference. When the engine is off, most parameters will naturally read as zero. The screenshot below illustrates the typical display for a 2010 touring model with electronic throttle control, with parameter sets varying slightly for different engine systems.
For 2008-2013 touring models equipped with electronic throttle control, the Twin Scan II ABS tool is invaluable for testing and tuning. It accurately displays the twist grip sensor (TGS) and electronic throttle actuator (TPS) positions, critical data points shown as TGS% and TPS% in the screen’s upper right corner. Real-time data logging directly to a laptop PC is initiated via the “Start Data Logging” button, capturing up to 1450 data points within a selectable logging interval from 0.25 to 2.0 seconds. Data logging can be toggled as needed, with the program buffer retaining the last 1450 data points.
Data Logging: Uncovering Intermittent Issues
The Daytona Twin Scan ABS excels in data logging, allowing users to review data either downloaded from the tool itself (from standalone operation) or logged in real-time via a PC connection. Logged data is visualized in a chart recorder format, as shown in the example below, displaying a comprehensive set of parameters. The actual parameters displayed will adjust based on the specific engine control system. The software provides a range of analytical tools and printing options for this data, which can also be saved for future reference.
AFR Data Analysis: Precision Fuel Tuning
When combined with the WEGO IIID dual-channel wide-band oxygen sensor system (part of the Twin Scan 2/4 Complete Kit), the Daytona Twin Scan II ABS becomes a powerful tool for Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) analysis. This integration enables the system to log engine data alongside front and rear cylinder AFR, making the Twin Scan 2/4 Complete Kit an exceptional aid for tuning Harley-Davidson® fuel-injected motorcycles. The software offers 11 different display formats for both Twin Cam and VRSC (V-Rod) engines, presenting AFR data in formats consistent with engine mapping systems, using RPM rows and throttle position sensor (TPS) or manifold pressure (MAP) columns.
AFR Data Display
The tool also calculates and displays required volumetric efficiency (VE) corrections in percentage based on AFR commands, indicating necessary fuel adjustments. Data from multiple saved files can be aggregated for analysis, and cells deviating more than ±0.5 AFR from the commanded value are highlighted in blue (rich) or red (lean). For users of third-party engine mapping systems, corrections can be implemented in two ways: direct copy-paste to Excel spreadsheets for subsequent import into mapping software, or manual entry using printed VE correction tables as a guide. For Daytona Twin Tec Twin Tuner users, direct export of VE correction data is supported.
The Twin Scan II software is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP through Windows 11. The minimum PC requirement is a 300 MHz Pentium with SVGA display (1024 x 768 resolution). Connection to the PC is via a supplied USB cable. For in-depth product details, downloading the Twin Scan II software and instruction manuals is recommended, which includes sample data files.
Exhaust Sniffers: Enhancing Tuning and Diagnostics
The Twin Scan II ABS Plus kit expands diagnostic capabilities with exhaust sniffers, enabling temporary installation for tuning and diagnostics on most motorcycles. JimsUSA offers a compatible exhaust sniffer (P/N 777) for use with the WEGO system. Detailed information on DIY sniffer solutions is available in the Motorcycle Exhausts Sniffer Tech Note.
For 2010 and later touring models and all 2012 and newer models with miniature 12mm oxygen sensors, the Twin Scan II ABS provides solutions. Although the 18mm Bosch LSU 4.2 wide-band sensors in Twin Tuner 2/4 Complete kits are incompatible, installing larger 18mm O2 sensor bungs alongside the OE 12mm sensors is the recommended solution. Alternatively, Bay Area Performance Cycles offers an oxygen sensor manifold kit for temporary wide-band sensor installation for testing purposes.
